We Have Had Dreams

Genesis 40 invites us to reconsider how we view the unexpected detours in our lives. Through Joseph's prison experience with Pharaoh's cupbearer and baker, we discover that what appears as mere coincidence is often God's sovereign hand directing our path. The message challenges us to see beyond the inconvenience of life's interruptions and recognize them as divine appointments. Joseph's faithfulness in prison, despite being falsely accused and forgotten, demonstrates that our response to difficult circumstances matters more than the circumstances themselves. The remarkable story of the Beatrice, Nebraska choir in 1950, where fifteen members were all inexplicably late to practice just before a gas explosion destroyed their church building, illustrates this truth powerfully. We're reminded that God orchestrates even the smallest details of our lives for purposes we may not immediately understand. The key lesson here is transformative: when strange circumstances arise, when plans fall apart, when we find ourselves in unexpected places, we can trust that God is weaving these threads into a larger tapestry. This isn't about fatalism or passive acceptance, but about active faith and faithful service wherever God places us, even when we cannot see the full picture. Joseph's story encourages us to remain faithful in our current situation while trusting that God sees what we cannot.
