Jacob Blesses Pharoah

What do we do when everything falls apart at once? In Genesis 47:1-12, we find ourselves walking alongside a family in crisis -- uprooted by famine, humbled by circumstances, and standing before the most powerful ruler in the world with nothing but honesty and a willingness to trust God. The story of Jacob and his sons appearing before Pharaoh is more than an ancient family drama. It is a mirror held up to every season of life where we have asked, 'God, what is this all for?' The land of Goshen, which might have seemed like a consolation prize compared to Egypt's lush agricultural heartland, turns out to be the exact provision God had prepared for a people whose gifts were perfectly suited to it. There is something deeply freeing in recognizing that God is not giving us what looks best to everyone else -- He is giving us what is best for us. And when we stop demanding the greener pasture and start asking what God has specifically prepared, we often discover that His provision was already waiting. The words of Habakkuk remind us that even when there is no fruit on the vine and no herd in the stall, we can still rejoice -- not because circumstances have improved, but because God has not moved.
